Disruptive trends for global sustainability

A new online platform is tracking potentially disruptive ‘mega-trends’ which can contribute to global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Launched by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), the ‘SDG Trend Scanner’ has data on trends ranging from ageing, automation, digitalisation to climate change, social instability, and vulnerable employment. As the platform explains: “Rapid changes in society triggered by disruptive trends, including rapid technological development, new business models and shifting values, provide a window of opportunity … which can be leveraged to accelerate progress towards global sustainability goals.” The platform also links different trends to specific SDGs, and synthesises key ‘predictions’ from a wide range of reports and studies. Very handy!
